Thinking
of Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual
direction can be described and understood in many ways:
"the art of holy listening," "spiritual companioning,"
"tending to the holy," "paying attention
and responding to God's personal communication." Spiritual
direction, above all, is a personal encounter with God.
The director is attentive to the spiritual life and journey
of the directee, seeking always to enhance and deepen the
relationship between God and the directee. It is this relationship
that guides the focus of the spiritual direction. Spiritual
direction draws upon prayer and Sacred Scripture as a powerful
means to engaging in intimate communication and divine response.
The relationship between director and directee is one of
mutual openness and trust and richly rewarding as it is
nurtured by and grounded in the love of God. Sessions may
be scheduled monthly or more often depending on the need
and desire of the directee. Spiritual direction is for persons
with "eyes to see and ears to hear" God's will
for them and God's intimate and infinite presence in their
lives. Mercy Center Auburn has Spiritual directors on
staff for those who want to deepen their prayer life and
relationship with God.
