Labyrinth

The Path
At the beginning of this path
I feel safe
I know I am loved
It has form
Its impact can extend way beyond its boundaries
It guides me
Contains me
Protects me
Teaches me
Accompanies me
Whispers wisdoms
Takes me into flight
Renews
Cleanses
It has depth
And height
It expands
Contracts
Filling and expanding
What a wonderful ride
On the rise and fall
Of this sacred path!
(Excerpts by Margaret Rainbird)
The labyrinth is an invitation for personal pilgrimage. It is a sacred winding path of “letting go,” “emptying,” or “surrender,” and journeying to the “center” or to “union.”
Each deliberate turn offers a new possibility for turning from … and moving forward. In the center of the Mercy Auburn labyrinth is an image of the Trinity where one stands in relationship with God, the Communion of Saints, and the mystery of our life in Christ. The experiences upon entering the center of the labyrinth are as varied as persons walking the sacred path. The path may lead to a place of deep and prayerful awareness, the journey might simply be a time for slowing down from a hectic or busy lifestyle, or a person may have a specific prayer intention or need for consolation or healing. Most “pilgrims” are called to this path of prayer to gain hope and strength for their journey. And it is here that we can meet fellow travelers who are also intently searching the deeper mystery of their lives, their faith, the Cross---the Divine Mystery that gives purpose and meaning. The labyrinth, like the Road to Emmaus, is a path of grace, a journey of meeting Jesus and Jesus’ revelation as we tend the sacred center of our lives.
Mercy Center extends an invitation to people from all faiths, especially those who are in transition and/or are struggling to find a means of prayer or meditation, to visit our labyrinth. For more information on Mercy Center Auburn’s Labyrinth, please contact Mercy Center at 530-887-2019.
